Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
- Look at your countertop. Make sure you have all the ingredients ready. Quality makes a difference, so aim for fresh garlic and lemon juice. If you've got everything, you’re halfway there!
Step 2: Combine the Tahini and Lemon Juice
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ½ cup of tahini paste and ¼ cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- You might notice that the tahini thickens as you stir. No need to panic! It’s normal. This creates a rich base for your sauce. Mix until they’re well combined.
Step 3: Add the Garlic and Water
- Now, toss in your 4 finely minced garlic cloves. Then, add 6 tablespoons of chilled water gradually. Begin incorporation. This will get you that silky texture.
- As you add water, stir until you achieve your desired consistency. I often choose a somewhat looser sauce, as it clings well to vegetables.
Step 4: Incorporate Olive Oil and Seasoning
- Next, add 1 tablespoon of extra-virgin olive oil and ½ teaspoon of fine sea salt to the mix. Olive oil adds richness while salt enhances all the flavors at play. Stir well to combine completely.
Step 5: Finish with Parsley and Cumin
- Finally, sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of finely chopped fresh parsley and that pinch of ground cumin powder. Give it a final mix. This adds a touch of color and depth to your sauce.
