Ingredients

  • Here’s what you’ll need to create this tantalizing sauce and the ultimate sandwich:
For the Special Sauce:
  • - 1 cup mayonnaise
  • - ½ cup ketchup
  • - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • - ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • - 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • - Hot sauce, to taste
  • - Optional: 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • - Optional: 2 tablespoons honey for a hint of sweetness
For the Sandwich:
  • - 1 loaf herbed parmesan focaccia
  • - 6 slices fresh tomato
  • - 6 large romaine lettuce leaves
  • - 12 slices crispy bacon, cooked
  • - 6 slices smoked gouda cheese
  • - 8 ounces sliced turkey breast

Method

Step 1: Prepare the Special Sauce
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, ½ cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, ½ teaspoon of dry mustard, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, and a few dashes of hot sauce. If you’re feeling adventurous, add in a teaspoon of garlic powder and 2 tablespoons of honey.
  2. Use a whisk to blend everything together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Taste it and adjust the spice level to your liking. Cover and set this aside while you prepare your sandwich.
Step 2: Assemble the Sandwich
  1. Take your herbed parmesan focaccia and slice it in half horizontally. Generously spread the special sauce on both halves. This is your flavor foundation, so don’t be shy with it!
  2. On the bottom half of the focaccia, layer in the fresh romaine lettuce leaves to create a nice crunch, followed by the sliced turkey. Then, pile on the crispy bacon strips. Who doesn’t love an extra crunch from that crispy layer?
  3. Next, add the fresh tomato slices for juiciness and top it off with thick slices of smoky gouda cheese. Cover your masterpiece with the top half of the focaccia.
Step 3: Serve and Enjoy
  1. Once your sandwich is fully assembled, you can either serve it right away or press it in a sandwich press for a few minutes for that melty cheese experience. Cut into portions and serve with extra sauce on the side for dipping!

Notes

- For extra tanginess, you can add a tablespoon of dill pickle relish to the sauce.
- Feel free to customize the sandwich filling based on your preferences. You can add avocados, cucumbers, or even grilled vegetables.
- This sauce can also double as a delicious dip for fried appetizers.
- If you prefer a lighter version, swap half of the mayonnaise for Greek yogurt.
- Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
