Method
Step 1: Prepare the Simple Syrup
- In a small saucepan, combine the filtered water and raw turbinado sugar.
- Heat gently over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Once dissolved, remove from heat and set aside to cool. This simple syrup can be stored in the fridge for about a month.
Step 2: Combine Ingredients
- In a cocktail shaker, add the bourbon, maple syrup, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and ground cinnamon.
- Add a dash of Angostura bitters to deepen the flavor.
Step 3: Shake It Up
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. You want to get everything well combined and chilled.
Step 4: Serve
- Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with ice.
- Garnish with a Maraschino cherry if you like.
Notes
Use Fresh Ingredients: Fresh lemon juice truly makes a difference. Bottled lemon juice can’t compete with the brightness of a fresh squeeze.
Experiment with Whiskey: Don’t hesitate to try different types of bourbon or rye whiskey. Each will offer its unique flavor profile.
Adjust Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the amount of maple syrup slightly. Taste testing is key.
Presentation Matters: Consider using a crystal glass or a fun cocktail glass to elevate the experience.
Chill Your Glass: A chilled glass helps keep your drink colder longer and makes for a more refreshing sip.
