Method
Step 1: Prepare the Watermelon
- Begin with a sweet, ripe watermelon. Slice it open, and use a melon baller or knife to scoop out bite-sized chunks. Aim for about eight cups. Remember, the riper the melon, the sweeter the juice!
Step 2: Blend the Watermelon
- Put the watermelon chunks in a blender. You don’t need to add water since the watermelon provides ample liquid. Blend on high until you achieve a smooth consistency.
Step 3: Strain (Optional)
- If you prefer a smoother juice, you may want to strain it through a fine mesh sieve. This helps remove any pulp. Personally, I enjoy the pulp for texture, but that's a matter of preference.
Step 4: Add Lime Juice and Sweetener
- Next, stir in the freshly squeezed lime juice and honey/agave syrup. Adjust the sweetness to your liking.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
- Pour the juice into glasses. For a fizzy version, top off with a splash of sparkling water. Garnish with mint sprigs, if you're feeling fancy.
- Believe me when I say: this process takes less than 15 minutes from start to finish. You can easily make it a ritual during summer!
Notes
To enhance your watermelon juice experience, here are some tips:
- Use Cold Watermelon: Chilling your watermelon beforehand intensifies the refreshing qualities of the juice. It's like a cool breeze in a glass.
- Experiment with Flavors: Don't stop at lime! Try adding ginger, basil, or other fruits like strawberries for a juicy twist.
- Mix It Up: If you want to serve a crowd, create a watermelon juice bar. Provide different fruits and mixers on the side and allow everyone to customize their drinks.
- Save the Seeds: If you do use a seeded watermelon, save the seeds! They're packed with protein and can be roasted for a crunchy snack.
